As we close the door of 2022 bringing all the love we shared, all the smiles we created and all the strength and experiences we gained into the new calendar year, I want to remind you that you are precious to those who love you and you are precious to so many more and you are precious to ME!
As many of you know, I don’t start my new year until February 1st (St. Brigid’s Day here in Ireland). I set this practice in place after my dad died eight years ago because January was too heavy in its own way so now I just roll through January not feeling crappy (well not as crappy as I could) but instead feeling light because I have no pressure on me…..the only thing I do in January is relax my mind, get excited about the future and I make positive plans about the year ahead as best I can. January is a clunky long old month (sorry January it’s not your fault) but I’ve always loved February - it’s a longtime friendship that works for me haha ;) …..February equally as lengthy in letters but not by its feel. February for me is the cute little month (I always call it the Polly Pocket of the year because it’s small by its day count and you could nearly fit in your pocket yet it has class elements ( St. Bridgid/St. Valentine/ Daffodils rising their heads/More light in the sky/Symbols of HOPE). I’ll share more about my set up around all that come February making its way to the door.
Until then it is indeed New Year’s eve all around the world and for so many people it’s a really important moment so I don’t deny it, but let’s just say I don’t get too tangled in it….I usually go to bed early as I never feel anything much good inside my heart by staying up late….too much grief, loss and pain rises to the top of my memory bank so instead of engaging with the hurt I’ll be in bed and asleep well before the bells toll for midnight…..I am very grateful to see the end of the year and equally as grateful to see a beginning of another year feeling healthy and well in myself and equally grateful for all the people I love to be healthy and well too so for me that is what I’ll be taking to bed with me once my head hits the pillow ahead of the calendar changing pages. It’s actually exactly the same thought & prayer of gratitude I take to bed every night so in ways not too much will change in my daily practice on December 31st but I am very grateful to every new year that begins. I hope for you, it is a wonderful 2023 in your life and I hope all your dreams comes through and most importantly I hope you have health, joy and peace abundantly in your heart and in the people who you love…..and on that note I will finish with a joke I tell every year as follows ( I laugh out loud everytime…here I am)
